Roadhouse/Mellow Family Reunion
July 25, 26, 27, 2014
at the farm of Janette and David Chevalier
NOTE: This is one week earlier than past reunions which were held over the Canadian long weekend.
The reunion committee is up and running. Everyone attending the 2010 reunion hosted by Janette and David had a great time and with more amenities added at the farm, 2014 will be even better. Over the summer we will follow up on our ideas for entertainment, food and activities and will meet again in September to put our plans in motion.
An amazing thing happened at our committee meeting last night as we were settling around a table at the summer home of Gail Duby and Phillip Bradley on Leisure Lake. Phillip was speaking to friends who were passing by in their golf cart. He told them that Gail was hosting a meeting for the Roadhouse Reunion. The lady said, “My grandmother was a Roadhouse”. She was not aware of the cousins she had in the area or of the reunions. Gail is going to follow up providing her with the information we have on her family line (before we introduce her to the thousands of others around North America).
This past week I received my copy of the Roadhouse/Mellow Reunion book for 2012 compiled by Dave and Dorothy Munro. It was so nice to sit back and remember the laughs, discussions and great food we had over the weekend in Spruce View. Please take the time to read all about it 2012 – Spruce View. Also this past week the reunion committee for 2014 has been sharing ideas and making plans to get together. Keep checking back for further news.
Do you have any photos of your Roadhouse ancestors? Perhaps you have pictures you believe to be in the Roadhouse family but you cannot identify them. Other family members may be able to help. If you send them to me at firstname.lastname@example.org I will put them on this site. Thank you to those who have already given me photos and if I have failed to acknowledge your contribution under the picture, please let me know. ( I wish to publish only pictures of those who are deceased.)
Family members have already met to discuss the 2014 Roadhouse/Mellow Family Reunion. We will be holding the reunion on the Chevalier farm near Leamington, Ontario, the site of the 2010 reunion (check out the pictures). What we do plan to change is the date of the reunion and it is now tentatively scheduled a week earlier, on July 25, 26, 27, 2014, moving it off of the long Canadian weekend. Please check this site often for any new updates. If you have any suggestions for the reunion or would like to attend our next meeting (date undecided), please let me know.
Kelly Lefebvre is doing research on the wife of Silas Thompson Roadhouse, Mary Anne Kinney. She is also researching the family of Catherine Heacock, wife of Benjamin Roadhouse. She will share the information she has and hopes that some of their Roadhouse descendants may have information on the Kinney and Heacock families. You can contact Kelly direct at KRLemail@example.com
April 2013 – Kelly believes that she has found the parents of Mary Anne Kinney.
A reunion book will be published again this year with pictures of family groups at the reunion and candid photos from the event. A few surprises will also be included. If you would like a copy of the book, send $15.00 to Alwilda Renwick, RR#1, 22439 Grove Road, Tilbury, Ontario N0P 2L0 before the end of September to ensure enough copies are printed. It will take a few months to get the book compiled. Email Alwilda at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.

All the hard work paid off and the weather cooperated – we had a wonderful weekend. Check out Past Reunions, 2010 – Leamington Ontario (found to the right) for an article provided to the local press. I will try to add more photos to this site as time permits.
We gathered again in the implement shed where the reunion will take place. David and Kevin have cleared out nearly all the machinery in preparation for the running of electrical lines, extra lighting, a platform/stage area plus all the other details that pop up as the work continues. Janette is doing a terrific job on flower beds and planters as well as lighting in the yard.
Friday evening will give an opportunity for those arriving in campers and tents to set up and get acquainted. Saturday will be busy with ongoing activities for the children, any tours that out-of-town visitors may be interested in, a special appearance by the Cottom United Church Choir followed by music provided by a popular local entertainer, Gord Ciliska, who may be able to bring back a memory or two of the old fashioned “barn dance”. Everyone with us on Sunday morning will hear a service led by a Roadhouse descendant, Larry Chalmers, with the very popular local entertainer, Dale Butler, providing the muscial portion of the program.
Meals have been set but it is now your turn. PLEASE REGISTER ASAP. As some of the meals are being catered it is necessary to give numbers to those doing the catering. We don’t want anyone to miss out so please get your registration sent in quickly. See you at the reunion.
