The Roadhouse/Mellow reunion of 2018 again bought together family from across North America. Cousins came from New Mexico, Utah, Texas, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey. Others came from Alberta and Saskatchewan with everyone receiving a warm welcome from those who call Ontario home. Some were attending for the first time and it is always wonderful to visit again with cousins we may only meet at reunions.
As in the past we began gathering on Friday evening and continued until we departed (some with tears) on Sunday afternoon. We played euchre, chess and cribbage. We searched out family members to complete our Bingo cards. We enjoyed rides around the farm in the barrel train and on the hay wagon and were treated to music by Dale Butler on Sunday morning. But most of all we talked and talked and talked. If we were not talking we were eating and eating and eating. We will not soon forget the abundance of breakfast fare, the delicious lunch and brunch and, of course, the pig roast (again prepared by the Pearce family) and all those pies. We have so much to remember from this weekend with family.
To many, a great deal of the enjoyment of this as well as the 2014 and 2010 reunions was the time spent on the farm as the guests of David, Janette and Kevin Chevalier. Their implement shed provided the perfect venue. Some of our ancestors came to Canada as farmers and this location reminded us that many of their descendants are carrying on that tradition. As we learned on Saturday evening, this was our last reunion here. It was a sad announcement for everyone, including the Chevaliers. We certainly appreciate all the work they have contributed in making this and past reunions truly amazing and memorable. Thank you again Janette, David and Kevin.
